Earlier this week, we received an email from Rebekah Spicuglia pitching an essay she wanted to write about President Donald Trump’s deportations. We receive a lot of pitches for political pieces but tell every reader that we are only interested in running personal essays. Rebekah told us this story is personal to her — MS-13 killed her 17-year-old son. In a topic filled with challenging ideas, Rebekah authored a must-read essay with a challenging viewpoint, arguing why she thinks — despite her experience — that alleged gang members should not be sent to El Salvador. You can read her full piece here.

Reader review.
In this section, we like to highlight reader comments that respond to our coverage from different angles. In our issue covering Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele's White House visit, one reader asked a question about something we wrote, and two readers gave comments that answered the question in different ways.
