On March 30th, Elon Musk held a town hall in Green Bay, Wisconsin. About an hour into the town hall, Elon brought out his friend, fellow billionaire, Antonio Gracias, to share a chart that claims that over 5 million noncitizens not only had Social Security numbers, but were receiving government benefits and illegally voting in our elections as a result of having social security numbers. These comments come amid a broader effort by the Trump administration to upend the status quo in government. From revoking the visas of pro-Palestinian protestors, to mass deportations, to huge cuts to federal agencies, the war on immigration in the US is at a fever pitch and Musk's claims about social security fraud could put the program in the crosshairs. So are the claims made by Elon and Gracias true?
