Video editor.

Tangle News is an independent media organization that covers news from across the political spectrum, with a focus on U.S. politics. Its main business offering, a daily newsletter, has more than 500,000 readers, including over 70,000 paid subscribers, with growing podcast and YouTube channels.

As Tangle continues to grow across video, podcasting, and digital platforms, we are looking for a highly skilled, creative, and organized Video Editor to help bring our journalism to life. This person will play a central role in shaping Tangle’s visual storytelling across YouTube, social media, podcasts, and other digital formats. The ideal candidate is a strong editor first and foremost — someone with sharp storytelling instincts, excellent technical ability, and the versatility to work across a range of formats, tones, and turnaround times.

This is a remote, full-time role. The right candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-moving startup environment, managing multiple projects at once, collaborating closely with editorial and production staff and helping us create compelling, polished, and distinctive video content that reflects Tangle’s mission and voice.

Primary responsibilities

  • Edit a wide range of video content for Tangle’s digital platforms, including deep-dive and feature-length videos, interviews, social clips, promotional videos, and other original content
  • Collaborate with producers, hosts, and editorial leadership to shape stories and execute creative and technical goals in post-production
  • Turn raw footage into compelling, clean, and engaging narratives with a strong sense of pacing, structure, and audience retention
  • Manage multiple projects at once while staying organized and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced production environment
  • Handle finishing work on assigned projects, including motion graphics, basic color correction, sound cleanup, audio mixing, exports, and platform-ready deliverables
  • Help identify the strongest moments for trailers, short-form clips, and other promotional assets
  • Maintain clear communication around project timelines, technical needs, and potential delays

Primary skills

  • At least 5 years of professional video editing experience, preferably in digital media, news, documentary, interview-based content, or other fast-paced editorial environments
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe After Effects
  • Strong visual storytelling instincts and a demonstrated ability to cut to the heart of a story efficiently
  • Experience with motion graphics, sound design, color correction, and finishing workflows
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage priorities across multiple active projects
  • Excellent communication skills and comfort collaborating with editors, producers, and on-camera talent
  • Ability to work independently, solve problems quickly, and produce high-quality work under deadline pressure
  • Strong understanding of digital video best practices, audience engagement, and platform-specific editing styles

Additional skills that would give you an inside track

  • Professional audio editing experience
  • Experience editing political, news, commentary, or interview-driven content
  • Familiarity with YouTube best practices, retention editing, and packaging content for digital audiences
  • Experience creating short-form, viral videos for social platforms
  • Strong editorial judgment and an interest in current events and U.S. politics
  • Familiarity with Tangle’s mission, voice, and audience
