It's finally here...

We're coming to you, live!

I’m Isaac Saul, and this is Tangle: an independent, nonpartisan, subscriber-supported politics newsletter that summarizes the best arguments from across the political spectrum on the news of the day — then “my take.”

Today is a special Friday edition for subscribers only.

Dear readers,

Thank you all for subscribing and supporting our work. One of my priorities while running this newsletter is to find ways to add value for Tangle members — to offer new products, new perks, new things you can get something meaningful out of.

For the last few years, one of the things we've been promising is to give more opportunities for the Tangle community to connect. So today, I'm writing to give you all — our 10,000+ paying subscribers — first dibs on tickets to our live event in Philadelphia, PA, on Thursday, August 3rd.

If that's all you need to know — "event in Philly, August 3rd, I'm there" — you can go buy a general admission or VIP ticket now. The password for subscribers to unlock the tickets is:

WELIKEIKE

If you're curious to hear more, here’s the idea: For years, Tangle readers and listeners have been asking for ways to connect with the larger community and for Tangle to "go on tour." This is an idea we've wanted to execute for a long time, but until recently, we haven't had the resources to do it. But in the last year or so, our team has grown. We've saved up some money. We can take a few risks. So we've been calling and emailing venues in the Northeast, laying out ideas for what an event might look like, and are finally satisfied that we’ve found the right venue, the right timing, and the right concept.

Our goal is to bring the Tangle experience live to the stage. Doors will open at 7 p.m. and the event will begin at 8 p.m.; I'll briefly introduce a topic, then moderate a live discussion between two or three guests who come from different sides of a big issue. We'll take audience questions afterward, and if you go for a VIP ticket, you’ll have access to a meet and greet before the show, front row seats, and free merchandise (we'll also be selling exclusive, event-only merch!).

We want this to be a gathering. A celebration of what we’ve built. A moment to bring together people who want to open their minds to different ideas, be challenged, and explore our political divisions with honesty. This is our first time doing this, and to be frank, I’m not quite sure how it’s going to go. But I feel very confident it will be a fascinating and fun night, and I can’t wait to meet so many people I’ve been communicating with electronically for the last four years.

We've tried to make all of this as affordable as possible: $25 for general admission tickets and $99 for VIP.

Obviously, our 60,000+ readers are spread out across the country (and the world), and many don't live in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, or Delaware (if you do, we're depending on you to turn out!). But if this event goes well, we hope to move on to another city, then another, and another...

And even if you don’t live in the area, I'll give you the quick pitch to make the trip: Philadelphia is a beautiful, historic place, with lots to do as a tourist: Fantastic restaurants, rivers and parks on all sides, some of the best museums in America, and one of the richest nightlife scenes on the east coast. It’s also affordable, close to the beach, and easily accessible, with an airport 10 minutes south of the city. So if you are looking for a fun weekend trip for the summer and want to tack on a Tangle event for good measure: Just do it (reminder, password is WELIKEIKE)

Our dream is to sell this place out and then make our way across the United States.

If you're not from Philadelphia or the surrounding area and don't think you can make it, I understand. But can you do me two small favors? First, tell anyone you know near Philly to come! And second, let us know where you want us to go next. Fill out this form and suggest a city!

To wrap up:

We'll be back in your inbox on Monday with our normal newsletter.

Best,

Isaac & the Tangle team
